Nursing - Compulsory Bond Illegal

Nursing - Compulsory Bond Illegal

Nursing studies across the country were made semester wise only. The compulsory signing of service bond system and the withholding of certificates from students was made illegal. If this is noticed, the Nursing Council may take strict action, according to a notification issued by the Central Government consolidating the course criteria.

The draft directive that requesting the admission of those who have studied Humanities at the Higher Secondary level should be given admission was omitted in the final notification. Admission will only be given to science students.

Other suggestions

  •  Only a 100-bedded hospital could start a nursing college. Exemptions are available for the tribal areas, northeastern states and Union Territories, including Ladakh.
  •  100 seats will be allotted in a college under a hospital with three hundred or more beds. If less than 300, maximum 60 seats will be allotted.
  •  A hospital cannot have more than one nursing college.
  •  An Nursing College that has not been admitted students for two consecutive years will be deemed closed.
  •  The hospital must have its own building within 2 years of starting college. The college should be within 30 km of the hospital. The 60-seat college needs a 23,200-square-feet building.
  •  The principal of the Nursing College should have at least 15 years of work experience after completing MSc Nursing. Ten years teaching experience is compulsory.
  •  6 Nursing departments are compulsory for the college.
