A Genome in the field of molecular biology is the genetic material of an organism. It contains all the information that a cell needs to develop, function and reproduce. It also has all the information needed for those cells to come together to form a person, plant or an animal. The study of genomes is called as Genomics. The integration of Ayurveda and Genomics in a systematic manner termed as “Ayurgenomics” could help to create revolution in the field of preventive medicine and personalized medicine.

In Ayurveda texts, though the principles of phenotypes in health and disease states are extremely well described, they are not readily decipherable and hence its potential has not been appreciated by modern genomic researchers. According to Ayurveda individual’s basic constitution (Prakriti) describes its predisposition and prognosis to disease status and also the treatment for disease and lifestyle regime. In Genomics, individual’s basic constitution is decided by its genetic makeup which indirectly reflects the levels of various biochemical parameters in individual which states its Health status. We aimed at establishment of high correlation of Prakriti with genomic signatures by isolating DNA, RNA and Plasma from the blood sample. It is anticipated that this approach of Ayurgenomics would allow development of surrogate methods for cost effective screening of predisposed individuals in the population. This would result in development of an integrative approach to systems biology for disease and health state.

Course

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is a relatively short training course required of most clinical health professionals and public safety personnel. The BLS course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. 

Typically, the course consists of practicing the resuscitation exercises on a "dummy" and demonstrating a correct response in role-play situations during an emergency. This is vital because not only do you need to know what to do, but you need to remain as calm as possible while doing so.

BLS training focuses on both single-rescuer situations as well as team rescues when more than one person is on the scene of an emergency.

Safety should be viewed as an essential component of a broader commitment to the provision of optimal health care for women. Promoting safety requires that all those in the health care environment recognize that the potential for errors exists systemically. Women’s health care should be delivered in a learning environment that encourages disclosure and exchange of information in the event of errors, near misses, and adverse outcomes.

The duration of course will be for 3months (24hrs). Each week, of 1 day schedule on Saturday 2 hr of teaching from evening 5.00 pm -7.00 pm.

Value Added Programme in Basic Laparoscopic Training for Postgraduates

Course

A teaching course in laparoscopic surgery was addressed to 21 young postgraduates as a part of their general surgery program with the aim of making them familiar with the basic principles of laparoscopic surgery. The methodology was based on tutorial teaching and ‘learning by problems’; the students worked in little groups elaborating check lists, discussing problems, and practising with laparoscopic training devices. Theoretical learning, practical abilities, and efficacy of tutorial teaching were investigated at the end of the course: the participant's understanding of instrument function, mastering of equipment, and solutions to clinical problems were good, as were the efficiency and pleasantness of the didactic method. Tutorial teaching seems to be a valid model for basic training in laparoscopic surgery in a modern medical education program.

Value Added Programme in Short Course in EEG for Medical Undergraduates 

Course

The objective of the course is to teach basic neurophysiology of EEG Recording of EEG in different montages Interpretation of EEG. Programs in neurodiagnostic technology include extensive EEG coursework, and students learn about the nervous system and associated disorders. They also gain the skills needed to operate the equipment used to monitor patients.

Students are introduced to the EEG machine, as well as how to operate the controls, apply electrodes to patients, read waveforms and collect results. Students also explore how the brain produces electrical activity and how the EEG machine captures a record of that activity. This is a beginning level course for students in an electroneurodiagnostic or neurodiagnostic program, which does not typically require a prerequisite.

Course to be conducted weekends, Sunday 2 hours for 8 weeks.(Includes theory and hands on practice )
