The purpose of this chapter is not to tell the reader how to perform a dental autopsy but to highlight some of the areas where expectations may be challenged. This material is essentially based on personal experience. It is not so much the theory but the interaction of the service provider with the expectations of oneself and others, consistent with providing an accurate, thorough result as comfortably and as safely as possible while ensuring psychological and physical well being. The chapter discusses the purposes, expectations, components of an examination, and the reporting of findings.
