Course

The Bachelor Of Computer Applications (BCA) Caters The Students With Specific Interests In Computer Science And Information Technology With Computer Science Courses As The Core And A Wide Range Of Electives.The Course Creates Highly Skilled, Adaptable Graduates Who Are Able To Design Computer-Based Solutions To Address Information Management And Processing Complications In Industry, Commerce, Science, Entertainment And The Public Sector.

Duration

Duration Of The Undergraduate Programme Shall Extend Over Four Semesters (Two Academic Years) For The Associate Degree (Advance Diploma), Six Semesters (Three Academic Years) For The Regular Bachelor Degree. The Maximum Period For Completion Of The Course Shall Be Six Years From The Date Of Admission.

Scheme Of Study

• There shall be five theory papers and two practical from first semester to fourth semester.
• There will be five theory, two practical and one project in fifth semester. There will be four theory, one practical and one project in sixth semester.
• The project work shall be carried out either independently or jointly (maximum of three students).
• Medium of Instruction: The medium of instruction shall be English.

Scheme Of Examination

At The End Of Each Semester There Will Be University Examination Of Three Hours Duration In Each Of The Theory Paper/Practical.

Attendance

As Per Bangalore University Regulations I N Force For Science Degree Courses.

Eligibility

Pass In 10+2 / Pre-University Course/ Equivalent Course Recognized By Bangalore University.

Project Work

Students Should Individually Develop A Project. They Should Implement Their Project In College In Any RDBMS Package Or Any Language Available In The College. The Project Should Web Based. The Students Have To Collect Data Outside Practical Hours. Project May Be Taken Outside But Must Be Implemented In The College. Internal Marks Can Be Awarded By The Guide By Evaluating The Performance Of The Students During The Course Of Project Work. In Viva-Voce The Questions Must Be Directed Only On The Project Work To Access The Involvement And Understanding Of The Problem By The Students.

The Project Carries 200 Marks Is Distributed As Follows:                

         Demonstration And Presentation - 130 Marks                 

         Viva-Voce - 50 Marks                 

         Project Report - 20 Marks

BBA Is A 3-Year Professional Undergraduate Course In Business Management.  

Eligibility

Candidates Who Have Completed Two Years Pre–University Course Of Karnataka State Or Its Equivalent Are Eligible For Admission Into This Course.  

Medium Of Instruction

The Medium Of Instruction Shall Be In English.

Attendance

1. For the purpose of calculating attendance, each semester shall be taken as a Unit.
2. A student shall be considered to have satisfied the requirement of attendance for the semester, if he/she has attended not less than 75% in aggregate of the number of working periods in each of the subjects compulsorily.
3. A student who fails to complete the course in the manner stated above shall not be permitted to take the University examination.

Scheme Of Examination

• There shall be a university examination at the end of each semester. The maximum marks for the university examination in each paper shall be 70.
• Of the 30 marks of Internal Assessment, 20 marks shall be based on two tests. Each test shall be of at least 01 hour duration to be held during the semester. The average of two tests shall be taken as the internal assessment marks. The remaining 10 marks of the Internal Assessment shall be based on Attendance and Skill Development Record of 05 marks each.
• The marks based on attendance shall be awarded as given below:

        75% To 80% = 02 Marks.

        81% To 85% = 03 Marks.

        86% To 90% = 04 Marks.

        91% To 100% = 05 Marks.

• Marks for skill development shall be awarded by the faculty concerned based on Skill Development exercises provided in the syllabus of each paper. The student is required to prepare/workout the concerned exercises in a Record Book maintained by him/her and shall submit it the faculty concerned at least 15 days before the last date of the semester.

Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W)

Course

Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W) is an undergraduate course particularly beneficial to people employed at middle and lower levels with NGOs and social and developmental agencies in both government and private sector. It is available both in English and Hindi across the country. It is useful to candidates who may like to work in social welfare sectors as it helps them acquire professional skills and knowledge to help the clients to deal with their emotional and psychological problems.

Objectives of the Course 

To equip candidates with the knowledge of working with people and the ability in problem solving through Field experience.

To promote among trainees a sense of commitment and dedication to strive for equity, social justice, social harmony and peace.

To sensitize the trainees to involve themselves for the cause of poor, subaltern under privileged and disadvantaged section of the society.

To develop confidence among the trainees to feel themselves as change agents for social change and transformation.

To equip trainees for disaster management and rehabilitation process.

Duration

The course of study for B.S.W Degree shall extend over a period of three academic years- comprising of six semesters – two semesters in each academic year. Each semester shall be of sixteen-week duration including examination (i.e., 14 weeks for instruction and 2 weeks for examination). The course may be offered in a college maintained by or affiliated to the Bangalore University.

Eligibility

A candidate who has passed the two year Pre-University Examination conducted by the Pre-University Education Board of Karnataka, or any other Examination considered equivalent there by the Bangalore University, is eligible for admission to the course.

Social Work Practicum 

The Practicum for Social Work curriculum is designed to provide a variety of opportunities to develop and enhance skills. Opportunities range from those that aid learning, observation and analysis of the realities and experience participation in social intervention. Besides, the tasks are so organized as to help the learner acquire learning skills, enrich those already acquired, and enhance these for complex situations. Gradually, the learner is encouraged to move to being an independent worker.

Social Work Practicum includes Fieldwork component in every Semester and Block Fieldwork Placement after Theory Examination to the Sixth Semester. The Practicum for B.S.W Course will have the following components :

Internal assessment- theory and practicum

There shall be a minimum of two tests in each paper/subject in each of the semesters from I to IV and evaluated by the course teacher. However candidates studying in V and VI semester shall have two tests, one seminar and one group discussion in each paper /subject, and evaluated by the concerned teacher. The marks secured by the student in each test/seminar/group discussion of a semester shall be entered in a register and average taken and finally reduced to a maximum of 20 marks. The internal assessment marks shall be sent to the university at least one week before the commencement of theory examinations. Internal assessment marks received after the commencement of theory examinations should not be considered.

Field Work during each Semester 

In each Semester, a minimum of 15 days are to be spent on field work with 10 hours per week. The students is placed under the guidance of a faculty member and he / she is required to submit the Field Work record once in a week to the faculty member and receive necessary guidance from him / her.

The Field Work Record, submitted by the student at the end of each semester, should be certified by the both the concerned faculty member as well as the head of the institution to the effect that the work has actually been done by him/her. The student is required to submit the fieldwork record to become eligible to take theory examination in each semester and if a student fails to submit the field work record before the commencement of theory examination he / she shall not be allowed to write the theory examination. Fieldwork record shall only be evaluated when the candidate appears for the viva-voce examination.

Field Work assessment

The Field Work Record, submitted by the student, will be evaluated jointly by one internal and one external examiner who will also conduct viva-voce examination. Such committee will be constructed by BOE in social Work from the approved panel of the BOS.

Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com)

Course

The Course Of Study Is Three (03) Years Of Six Semesters. Students Successfully Completes Three (03) Years Of The Course Will Be Awarded Bachelors Degree In Commerce (B.Com.).

Pass In 10+2,12th Grade Or Equivalent State And Central Board Exams With A Minimum Of 50% Marks In Aggregate.

Medium Of Instruction

The Medium Of Instruction Shall Be English. However, A Candidate Will Be Permitted To Write The Examination Either In English Or In Kannada.

Minimum For A Pass

Candidates Who Have Obtained A Minimum Of 35% Marks In University Examination (I.E. 25 Marks Out Of 70 Marks Of Theory Examination) And 40% In Aggregate (I.E., Total Of University Examination And Internal Assessment Marks) In Each Subject Shall Be Eligible For A Pass Or Exemption In That Subject.
