GOVT. YOGA AND NATUROPATHY MEDICAL COLLEGE, ARINAGAR ANNA GOVT HOSPITAL OF INDIAN MEDICINE CAMPUS, ARUMBAKKAM, CHENNAI-106 was established in the year 2000 as per the Govt. order No.137, Health and Family Welfare Department dated 30-05-2000 for conducting BNYS (BACHELOR OF NATUROPATHY AND YOGIC SCIENCES), the Five and Half years Medical Degree course in Naturopathy and Yoga comprising 4 ½ years course of study and one year Compulsory Internship. This college is purely Govt. of Tamil Nadu owned Institution. This college is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai. All the seats were filled up through the Selection Committee, Directorate of Indian Medicine and Homoeopathy, Govt. of Tamil Nadu. The Govt. of Tamil Nadu has appointed the first principal for this college named Dr. N. Manavalan.

Principal's Message
Ever since the humble start of Govt. Yoga & Naturopathy Medical College on the occasion in the year 2000, the institution/college is furthering steadfast in the sphere of health care through Yoga & Naturopathy and in professional education. It is evidenced by the growing number of patients availing treatments at the OPD and IPD of the college hospital. Similarly the intake capacity of students has also been enhanced from ten to the current status of sixty per year with the growing demand of Yoga and Naturopathy service among the public. The out patient department was started in the year 1997. The College has also stepped up to the rank of first Government Post Graduation Institute in the entire nation by the year 2014 with three specialties viz, Naturopathy, Yoga and
Acupuncture & Energy Medicine, with an annual intake of five per specialty. The demanding multifaceted activities of the college is supported with sufficient infrastructural development accommodating 100 bedded Inpatient Hospital, separate boys and girls hostel, new college building with state of art lab facilities for all departments and classrooms constructed. The college is acting as the hub of Yoga & Naturopathy service in the state of Tamilnadu through the generation of skilled therapists, sensitization of Village Health Nurse, Allopathy and other AYUSH professionals with its experienced faculties. GYNMC goes hand in hand in the promotion of Yoga and Naturopathy with the NRHM, wellness clinics and Life style clinics from Primary Health Centers to all District Headquarters Hospital and Medical college Hospitals and multi super specialty hospital respectively in the state of Tamilnadu, setting a role model for the Integral Medicine.

Research
Research is an integral component of UG and PG curriculum at GYNMC. Even at a UG level, each student is expected to take up a research project each year, and encouraged to present the research findings in Seminars, Conferences and ably guided to publish in peer review journals. Central Research Lab under the leadership of a Research Officer is equipped with high end equipment to facilitate research in basic sciences, genetics and molecular biology. Our faculties have enviable record publications in impact factor journals, including Nature.
