OCI Candidates can Submit Applications for MBBS/BDS Courses in Private Self-Financing Medical/Dental Colleges Under NRI Quota Seats
As per the notice CEE/26/2022-TA2 dated 6.04.2022 applications are invited for admission to professional degree courses in various professional colleges in Kerala for the academic year 2022-23. In the notification, it is mentioned that the Overseas Citizen of India Card Holders will be eligible for admission to non-resident Indian seats only. This condition has been mentioned in the notice as per Govt. of India Gazette Notification dated 4.03.2021 and in accordance with the Government Order No 1264/2021/HEDN dated 23.09.2021. According to the KEAM 2022 prospectus, to qualify for the NRI quota in Private self-financing medical/dental colleges the candidates must have an NRI/OCI sponsor associated with the candidate specified in clause 7.6(k) of the prospectus. Accordingly, the candidates who need admission to the NRI quota have to upload the required documents to establish eligibility for the NRI quota. Now an interim order in IA74336/2022 in WP(c)No. 1397/2020 dated 20.05.2022 Hon’ble Supreme Court has directed that OCI candidates should be allowed to apply for State and All India Examination and Counselling against NRI (Non-Resident Indian) quota by presenting the proof of OCI status and place of residence in State/India without the need to upload documents establishing NRI status subject to the final outcome of the petition. In accordance with the interim of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, the Overseas Indian Citizens Card Holders with the above qualifying condition can apply for the NRI quota seats in MBBS/BDS seats in Private Self-Financing Medical/Dental colleges online through the website www.cee.kerala.gov.in of the Commissioner of Entrance Examination from 26.05.2022 to 2.06.2022 till 2 PM. They must upload the documents to prove their OCI status and residence with the application. This will be subject to the final outcome of the petition mentioned above. OCI candidates who are not permanent residents of Kerala will be considered for admission to NRI quota seats only when there are a sufficient number of Kerala NRI candidates and OCI candidates residing in Kerala are not available for admission. Those OCI candidates who have submitted the application along with the required documents as mentioned above need not submit the application again. As per other terms mentioned in the above notification issued by the CEE on 6.04.2022 and the relevant clauses in the prospectus are applicable, candidates should go through the notification and Prospectus before filling the application. This notification has been issued in strict compliance with the interim order of the Supreme Court and is subject to the final outcome of the petition mentioned above.
