Various Central Scheme Scholarships Available in India Under the Ministry of Minority Affairs:

Many students and parents are unaware of various scholarship opportunities provided by the Government and private organizations, ministries, NGOs, and societies in India.

Let us look at various central scheme scholarships available to deserving students from financially backward minority communities in India. For example, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Buddhists, Jain and Zoroastrians (Parsis) are considered minority communities in India. A total of around five lakhs scholarships are targeted to be distributed as 'Fresh' Scholarships, besides, Renewal scholarships. In addition, the distribution of scholarships among the States/Union Territories will be made based on the population of minorities in the Indian States/Union Territories.
Some of the scholarships for Minorities are:

1) Pre Matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities

Pre Matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities is awarded for studies in India in a government/private school from the first std to the tenth std, including residential Government institutes and eligible private institutes, selected and notified transparently by the State Government and Union Territory Administration concerned. It is awarded to the students who scored not less than 50% marks in the last final exams, and the annual income of their guardians/parents from all sources does not exceed one lakh rupees. The Pre Matric scholarship aims to encourage minority communities to send their children to school by slightly lifting their financial burden on school education and supporting them to complete school education. Empowerment through education is one of this scheme's objectives and helps uplift the socio-economic conditions of the minority communities.

2) Post Matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities
Scheme Closing Date: Open till 31-10-2022
Defective Application Verification Date: Open till 15-11-2022
Institute Verification: Open till 15-11-2022

Post Matric Scholarships Scheme for Minorities is awarded to deserving minority students for their education inside India in a government/ private run higher secondary school/ college/ university, including government residential institutes and eligible private institutes selected and notified transparently by each State Government or Union Territory Administration concerned. The scheme also covers technical and vocational courses in Industrial Training Institutes and Industrial Training Centres affiliated with the NCVT ( National Council for Vocational Training) of plus one and plus two levels, including Polytechnics and other courses. The courses less than one-year duration and certificate courses are not covered under this scheme. It aims to provide better higher education opportunities to the meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of minority communities, increase their attainment rate in higher education, and enhance their employability. The post-matric scholarship scheme for minorities will be awarded to the deserving students who have scored not less than 50% marks in the earlier final exam, and the annual income of parents/guardians from all income sources does not exceed two lakh rupees.

3) Merit Cum Means Scholarship for Professional & Technical Courses
Scheme Closing Date: Open till 31-10-2022
Defective Application Verification Date: Open till 15-11-2022
Institute Verification: Open till 15-11-2022

The scholarship is awarded to the poor and meritorious students belonging to minority communities for studies inside India in a Government or private institution, selected and notified transparently by the respective State Government or Union Territory Administration concerned. It will cover technical and professional courses at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels. The students who have scored not less than 50% marks in the previous final exam and the combined annual income of parents/guardians from all sources does not exceed two and a half lakhs rupees are eligible for the scholarship.

4) Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship
Scheme Closing Date: Open till 30-09-2022
Defective Application Verification Date: Open till 16-10-2022
Institute Verification: Open till 16-10-2022

The Begum Hazrat Mahal National Scholarship (earlier known as 'Maulana Azad National Scholarship for Meritorious Girls belonging to Minorities') is awarded to deserving female students from minority communities. It aims to promote and assist female students belonging to National Minorities who cannot continue their higher education due to a lack of financial support. The scholarship can be used for expenditure on payment of School/College fees, purchase of syllabus books, purchase of stationery/equipment required for the course and cost of boarding charges.
