Course
The Department of Mechanical is offering M.Tech in Product Design and Manufacturing (PDM) (from 2010 onwards) with an intake of 18.The course is approved by AICTE, Government of Karnataka and is affiliated to Visveswaraya Technological University, Karnataka. The primary objective of the programme is to train the students in Designing and developing products by imparting broad based training on the state of the art engineering design methods analysis tools and manufacturing processes. With this training we expect the students to become powerful practitioners of product designers. The knowledge gained by the students in this course is an effective and practical, immediately applicable to today’s design challenges in the industry.
The course provides an in-depth knowledge of the production of various products that include automobiles, aeroplanes, tractors, electronics, toys, building products, etc. The course enhances the abilities of the students in designing the products.The program mainly focuses on Product Design and Development, Product Life Cycle Management, Product Data Management, Robust Design, Simulation and Modelling of Systems, Optimization Techniques, etc

Eligibility
Candidates who have acquired BE/B.Tech or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Industrial Engineering and Management/ Industrial Production Engineering/ Automobile Engineering/ Manufacturing Engineering by securing not less than 50% marks in aggregate. However in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST/Group 1 aggregate percent of marks in qualifying examination should not be less than 45%. The admissions are through central counseling on the basis of merit in PGCET or GATE. A few seats are also available under sponsored and Management quota. GATE qualified candidates are eligible for scholarship through AICTE.
