Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Mechanical Engineering is a doctorate level program.Mechanical engineering is an engineering branch that combines engineering physics and mathematics principles with materials science to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering branches.
The mechanical engineering field requires an understanding of core areas including mechanics, dynamics, thermodynamics, materials science, structural analysis, and electricity. In addition to these core principles, mechanical engineers use tools such as computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided manufacturing (CAM), and product lifecycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices, weapons, and others. It is the branch of engineering that involves the design, production, and operation of machinery.
Eligibility
- The candidate shall possess a Master Degree in Engineering / Technology / Management/ Science of VTU or any other University with minimum of 60% or equivalent Grade at Master’s Degree examinations. However, a relaxation to the extent of 10% shall be allowed to SC/ST or any other category as notified by the Government of Karnataka from time to time OR candidate with a minimum of five years experience in teaching or research, subject to the approval of VTU.
- A candidate satisfying the above criteria can meet the concerned Heads of the Departments for further information.
- In addition to the above, the candidate shall be qualified in the University Level Research Aptitude test, the result of which is valid for a period two years.
