About Us
At the end of XVIII century at first in Kherson, then in Nikolaev the educational institutions connected with navigation and ship architecture open. The question of the organization of establishments of technical education in the south of Ukraine in the end of XIX century the City Duma of Nikolaev addressed repeatedly. But due to various objective and subjective reasons, these attempts were unsuccessful. First, instead of Mykolayiv, a higher educational institution was established in Odessa (1865), then in Kharkiv (1868) and in Warsaw (1898). In 1897-1900 in Nikolaev for implementation of the program of construction of armored fleet new plants are erected. There is a need to train a large number of mid-level technicians. To solve this problem in 1902 a secondary mechanical and technical school was opened.Konstantin Petrovich Boklevsky, a shipbuilding scientist of that time, one of the creators of the science of ship design, took an active part in its creation. In 1917 the secondary mechanical and technical school was transformed into the Nikolaev polytechnic school. In 1920, during the reorganization of the Soviet system of public education, the Nikolaev Polytechnic School was transformed into a technical school named after K. Timiryazev as a higher educational institution, and its graduates were awarded the qualification of engineer. In 1925 the Polytechnic College was reorganized into an industrial one, and in 1927 it became a shipbuilding school. In 1929 the Nikolaev shipbuilding technical school was united with the Nikolaev evening working technical school. This institution was named the Nikolaev Machine-Building Institute. In 1930 it was renamed the Nikolaev Shipbuilding Institute (MKI).By the decision of the government of the USSR in 1949 MKI was named after Admiral SY Makarov - a native of Nikolaev, a famous scientist-shipbuilder, admiral-naval commander. In 1994, by the decision of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Admiral SY Makarov received the highest (fourth) level of accreditation, the status of the university and the name - Ukrainian State Maritime Technical University (UDMTU).Given the national and international recognition of the results of the Ukrainian State Maritime Technical University named after Admiral Makarov, his significant contribution to the development of national education and science, the Decree of the President of Ukraine of March 25, 2004 approved the university national status and named it ».
