Course
Post Basic Diploma Oncology Nursing is a one-year course. The course focuses on preparing competent nurses to provide advanced care to cancer patients and families. Medically fit registered (R.N/R.M) nurses with one year of clinical work experience are eligible for this course. They should also have completed B.Sc Nursing/GNM or equivalent. Due to the nature of the disease, the oncology ward is emotionally draining. Oncology nurses must be mentally and emotionally healthy and empathetic and supportive of the patient and family's physical, mental, emotional, spiritual needs. Their professional duty includes monitoring the patient's physical condition, administrating medication, chemotherapy and other cancer treatments. The course teaches the principles and standards of oncology nursing practise; assessment of physical, mental, social and spiritual needs of patient & family; principles of radiotherapy, chemotherapy, biotherapy and surgery; application of nursing practices in caring different cancer patients; nurse role in treatments and alternative therapies; demonstrate skills in caring patients under different treatment regime; analyse legal and ethical issues in oncology nursing; provide palliative care to cancer patients. Competent nurses can serve in the oncology area as nursing specialists, nursing supervisors, researchers, administrators, and teachers.

Eligibility:
Candidates ( Female ) for Admission to post basic Diploma nursing courses should have qualified in diploma in general nursing and midwifery or B.Sc. nursing or Post basic B.Sc. nursing and be a registered nurses and midwife in the Tamilnadu nurses and midwives council or equivalent.
