The Department of Mechanical Engineering was started with an intake of 60 students in the year 2009, at the inception of the institute. Subsequently from the academic year 2011-12, the intake was enhanced to 120.The department caters to the students of all branches of engineering in their first year, in imparting some basic skills in handling various hand tools and imbibes fundamental knowledge about the various aspects of engineering graphics through Computer Aided Engineering Drawing. The Department of Mechanical Engineering being one of the largest branches, is continuously striving to achieve academic excellence by instilling capability to work effec-tively in multidisciplinary teams, providing leadership and technical expertise. The department has well equipped work shop, machine shop and other laboratories that facilitates the students to explore the practical aspects of the various subjects and enhances their problem solving approach. From the academic year 2013, the department has been accorded permission by AICTE and VTU, Belgaum, to start Post Graduate Course M.Tech in Thermal Power Engineering with an intake of 18.
B.E Mechanical Engineering is an undergraduate program. Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest and broadest among engineering disciplines. The application base of Mechanical Engineering field of study is diverse and its scope is continuously expanding beyond the traditional boundaries. Mechanical Engineering applies the principles of Physics, Materials Science and Mathematics to the design, development, research, evaluation, manufacture, installation, testing, operation, maintenance and management of mechanical systems. Mechanical Engineers use these core principles along with tools like computer-aided engineering and product life-cycle management to design, analyse and develop manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices, and others.Mechanical Engineer thinks up,design,realizes new products and processes, improves and optimizes existing technologies.
Duration: 4 yearsEligibility
- Pass in 10+2/Higher secondary(HS)/Pre-university(PUC)/’A’ Level (with 12 years of schooling) or its equivalent with English as one of the language,shall have secured a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate in physics,mathematics and any one of the following i.e Chemistry,Biology,Bio-technology,Computer science,Electronics,Information science.
- The candidates who belongs to Karnataka schedule caste,schedule tribe and other backward categories i.e 2A,2B,3A & 3B,the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in the optional subjects in the qualifying examinations.
