Course
Ph D in Linguistics is a Doctor of Philosophy program. Ph D in Linguistics Course offered by Central University of Kerala Kasaragod. Linguistics, the scientific study of language. The word was 1st employed in the center of the nineteenth century to emphasise the distinction between a {more moderen|a more recent} approach to the study of language that was then developing and also the more ancient approach of humanistic discipline. The variations were and area unit for the most part matters of perspective, emphasis, and purpose. The philologue thinks about primarily with the historical development of languages because it is manifest in written texts and within the context of the associated literature and culture. The linguist, although he is also inquisitive about written texts and within the development of languages through time, tends to offer priority to spoken languages and to the issues of analyzing them as they operate at a given purpose in time.
Eligibility :
- Candidates for admission to Ph.D. Programme shall have a Master’s Degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s Degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade ‘B’ in the UGC 7 – point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution accredited by Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority, established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
- Up to 5% relaxation in minimum requirement of marks in Master’s Degree for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-Abled and other categories of candidates as per decision of the UGC from time to time, or for those who had obtained their Master’s Degree prior 19th September, 1991. The eligible marks of 55% ( or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of 5% to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace mark procedures.
- Only JRF and similar FELLOWSHIP HOLDERS such as (Inspire/UGC-CSIR JRF /ICAR/DBT/NBHM/ ICSSR/KSCSTE) are exempted from appearing for the CUCET. However, they have to register and pay requisite fee in the CUCET website for PhD admission. Further all others such as NET/ICMR/GATE etc. qualified candidates have to apply and appear for CUCET 2020.
- Project fellows working in projects carried out by faculty members of Central University of Kerala are eligible to apply for PhD admission through CUCET only.
- As per UGC Notification, dt.27/08/2018, relaxation of 5% marks (from 50% to 45%) shall be allowed for the candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy layers)/ differently -abled category for the CUCET cut off marks.
- As per UGC Notification dt.16/10/2018, an interview/viva-voce to be conducted by the Central University of Kerala, when the candidates are required to discuss their research interest/area through a presentation before a duly constituted Department Research Committee provided that for selectin of candidates, a weightage of 70% to the entrance test and 30% to the performance in the interview / viva-voce shall be given. Candidates having NET/ICMR/GATE should produce their score card if short listed for interview/ viva voce.
