Bachelor of Science (B.Sci)Hons in Applied Psychology is an undergraduate postgraduate program offered by Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth Kochi. The B.Sc.Hons Applied Psychology Honours programme at Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (Deemed-to-be-University) in Kochi has been developed to prepare students to meet the increasing demand for psychological understanding and application in diverse fields of service in India and abroad. It also aims at developing in students a deeper understanding of the growing discipline of psychology from an Indian perspective and promoting professional skill-based education. One of the main goals of this programme is to facilitate self-discovery in the students and to develop a passion and effective participation in responding to the needs and challenges of the contemporary world. All the courses under this programme have been developed by experts, incorporating graduate attributes listed by the American Psychological Association (2013) and the UGC Psychology model curriculum recommendations (2016) to improve the job-readiness of the students. After the completion of this programme, the students would be equipped with the unique skills and expertise in broad-based education and will be ready to take up either their first job as a psychologist or continue their education for a higher degree in the chosen area of specialisation. This programme exposes the students to the varied domains of Applied Psychology such as Counselling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Organisational Psychology, Social Psychology, Neuro-Psychology, School Psychology, Rehabilitation Psychology and Indian Psychology. The objective of this programme is to prepare the students for a career in psychology by providing them with the knowledge and professional skills necessary for working as a psychologist. Further, it is aimed at enabling the students to build a career in psychology and to derive great joy by professionally helping people who require psychological help and thereby contribute to society. Graduates of Applied Psychology are employed in diverse fields, including the health-care sector, schools and colleges, human resource departments in industries and corporates, community development, child welfare, juvenile department, addiction treatment, family, rehabilitation and guidance and counselling. Psychologists work with individuals, students, employees, patients, families and groups to resolve psychological and emotional problems and improve well-being and human potential.
