MD in Dravya Guna is a postgraduate course in medicine, involving an advanced study of the principles, qualities, actions, and therapeutic profiles of the food/ drug substances in Ayurveda is a part of Ayurveda. It can be correlated with the discipline of Pharmacology in modern medicine. The word 'Dravya" means 'drug'. The word 'Guna' means 'properties', and the word 'Vijnan' means knowledge or science. Dravyaguna involves an advanced study of medicinal herbs and drugs, their origin, nature, properties, and effects upon human beings. It finds its parallel in the modern science of pharmacology. It’s the science of herbal plants.The discipline comprises pharmacognosy, pharmacology, and therapeutic uses of the plants. Ayurvedic drugs, especially herbs, are prescribed across different pharmaceutical forms, to produce maximum therapeutic effect.
