Course
M.ch (Master of Chirurgiae) in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery is a super specialty postgraduate course that is done by the Government Medical College (GMC), Kozhikode under the Kerala University of Health Sciences Thrissur. Medical candidates can join in this course after completing graduation or MS in a specialized stream from a recognized university. The eligibility criteria for the candidates are based on the entrance examinations like AIIMS, NEET performed by the universities. Government Medical College (GMC), is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences. Plastic surgery is the branch of science that deals with the repairing, reconstruction of abnormalities found in human body parts like in the skin, skeletal system, muscles, and internal parts. There are two fields in plastic surgery cosmetic surgery, and reconstructive surgery. Kerala University of Health Sciences covers the syllabus which contains the topics namely history of plastic surgery, Embryology of head and neck ( excluding central nervous system), Leprosy deformities of face Regional anatomy of head and neck, Temporomandibular joint dysfunctions, Pedicled skin flaps, and tubes Fractures – nose, maxilla, mandible, zygoma, orbit – early management and treatment of sequelae, Unstable scar and scar contracture Rhinoplasty Orthodontics, Care of wounds, Facial paralysis, Principles of craniofacial surgery, Congenital deformities of the face and jaw bone, Reconstruction of the external ear, and so on. The candidates who undergo this research are super specialties and can lead different roles in their field like plastic surgeons, cosmetologists, neurosurgeons, assistant surgeons, etc.
