M.Phil Geology or Master of Philosophy in Geology is a postgraduate Geology course.Geology is the science that comprises the study of the solid Earth and the processes by which it is shaped and changed. During the course,candidates are introduced to plate tectonics,the history of life and evolution,commercially important mineral and hydrocarbon,the remedition of environmental problems and past climates.The students of geology at this level study the composition, structure,physical properties and history of the planet we live on .
Geology or earth sciences studies the Earth, its origin, history and the rocks it is made up of. The field of geology is not only restricted to the study of Earth but also studies other celestial bodies like Moon, Mars, meteorites, etc. It is a very valuable field of study as it helps us in exploration and extraction of mineral resources, hydrocarbons like oil, gas, coal and also in evaluating and channelizing our water resources spread across lakes, rivers and oceans. Research in the field of geology also helps us in understanding the climatic changes affecting Earth and in dealing with natural disasters like earthquakes, volcanoes, floods plaguing Earth from time to time
Duration : 2 Years
Eligibility : Candidate should have passed Master's Degree in Geology with a minimum of second class securing at least 55% of the aggregate marks or in an examination recognized as equivalent
