Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) is an alternative medicine degree course offered by Inamdar Unani Medical College & Hospital Gulbarga. The duration of this program is five and a half years with a one-year rotating internship. It comes under the Center Council of Indian Medicine and one among AYUSH- Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy. Unani medicine originated in ancient Greece and is based on the principle of achieving a balance of the bodily fluids, the four humors (blood, phlegm, yellow bite and black bile), to have a healthy life. The Greek physician Hippocrates is known as the father of Unani medicine. Inamdar Unani Medical College & Hospital Gulbarga is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science (RGUHS) Bangalore. Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science (RGUHS) curriculum covers different treatment therapies like massage, diuresis, Turkish bath, pharmaco-therapy, diet therapy, purging, regimental therapy venesection exercise, use of herbal, animal and mineral drugs, and surgery. The course completed Inamdar Unani Medical College & Hospital students can practice as Unani Doctor, Hakeem, Unani Lecturer, Unani Scientist, Unani Pharmacist, Drug Inspector, Medical Consultant, Therapist in various healthcare sectors, pharmacies, unani based manufacturing and sales companies, colleges, universities or practice independently.

Candidates must have passed 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English as the core subjects.
