Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Civil Engineering
Candidates admitted into the Ph.D. program are required to complete pre Ph.D. course work comprising two terms over a total duration of one year. The first two semesters (first year) of the Ph.D. program is devoted to course work. Successful completion of course work would confirm the registration. Two years after successful completion of course work, the student is eligible to submit the thesis.
Civil Engineering & Construction deals with designing, building and maintaining the infrastructure we rely on daily: buildings, roads, bridges, water and energy systems, waste networks, and many more. People who work in Civil Engineering & Construction need to adapt plans and structures and find solutions to complex problems such as the increase of human population or natural disasters.
Duration : 3+years
Eligibility
- Candidate should hold a Master’s Degree (from a recognized university) in the relevant subject with a minimum of 55% (In the case of SC / ST candidates there will be a relaxation of 5%). Selection will be through an Entrance Test and Interview.
- Candidates who have passed UGC / CSIR / Fellowship holders shall be exempted from the Written Test; but they will need to take up the Interview.
- Candidates who are qualified for CA or ACS or ICWA with basic degree are also eligible to register for Ph.D. in this category
- Candidates who have qualified for Masters Degree prior to 1990-91 with no less than 50% marks are also eligible to register for Ph.D. program
- M.Phil. degree holders will get a waiver for part of the course work of Ph.D. program
- Candidates sponsored by organizations are also eligible to apply subject to their fulfillment of the above mentioned qualifications
- Candidates who hold a Masters Degree viz., M.Tech / M.Sc (Engineering) in Civil, Mechanical, Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering (Structural or Associated disciplines) are eligible for the Ph.D. (Aerospace Engineering) Program.
There is a huge demand for Civil Engineers in India. The field is expected to grow further, considering the rising demand for advanced infrastructure creation.
Civil Engineers can work in Real Estate Societies, Power Plants, Transportation, Government Departments, Private and Public Sector Undertakings, Housing and Urban Development and Teaching Institutions, Consultancy Firms, Industrial Plants & Building.Civil engineers should have an analytical mind and be detail-oriented.
