Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Zoology
The course is designed for students wishing to study animal behavior at an advanced level and as an academic specialty, besides evolutionary trends, species and characteristics, and the structure, functioning, behavior, and evolution of animals, including living beings.
Candidates admitted into the Ph.D. program are required to complete pre Ph.D. course work comprising two terms over a total duration of one year. The first two semesters (first year) of the Ph.D. program is devoted to course work. Successful completion of course work would confirm the registration. Two years after successful completion of course work, the student is eligible to submit the thesis.

Eligibility
- Candidate should hold a Master’s Degree (from a recognized university) in the relevant subject with a minimum of 55% (In the case of SC / ST candidates there will be a relaxation of 5%). Selection will be through an Entrance Test and Interview.
- Candidates who have passed UGC / CSIR / Fellowship holders shall be exempted from the Written Test; but they will need to take up the Interview.
- Candidates who are qualified for CA or ACS or ICWA with basic degree are also eligible to register for Ph.D. in this category
- Candidates who have qualified for Masters Degree prior to 1990-91 with no less than 50% marks are also eligible to register for Ph.D. program
- M.Phil. degree holders will get a waiver for part of the course work of Ph.D. program
- Candidates sponsored by organizations are also eligible to apply subject to their fulfillment of the above mentioned qualifications
- Candidates who hold a Masters Degree viz., M.Tech / M.Sc (Engineering) in Civil, Mechanical, Aerospace or Aeronautical Engineering (Structural or Associated disciplines) are eligible for the Ph.D. (Aerospace Engineering) Program.
Zoologists are additionally employed in zoos, wildlife settings, greenhouses, natural conservation-based organizations, national parks, colleges, labs, aquariums, animal facilities, fisheries and aquaculture, historical centers, pharmaceutical companies, veterinary healing centers, and such.
Such professionals are hired in capacities such as Animal Behaviorists, Animal Raisers, Animal Trainers, Animal Caretakers, Animal and Wildlife Educators, Animal Rehabilitators, Conservationists, Documentary Makers, Forensic Experts, Lab Technicians, Researchers, Wildlife Biologists, Veterinarians, Zoo Attendants, Zoo Curators, and related roles.
