The Department was established in the year 2013 with UG program (B.E.in Civil Engineering) at JVIT. The department has been imparting quality education to meet the technological advancement and industrial requirements. The department is progressing through dedicated faculties and supporting staff for the academic growth. The intake for the undergraduate program is 60 and is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU,) Belagavi. The department nurtures students for overall development with high integrated morality by encouraging them to participate in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. The department has well established relations with outside world (institutions and industry) through industrial visits, expert lectures, technical seminar, workshops and internships etc and also department ensures that the students have the opportunity to work with latest equipment both in laboratories and projects with various construction companies in and around the city. In addition to academic activities department also offers its services in the form of consultancy and testing to various departmental and private agencies.
Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewerage systems, pipelines, structural components of buildings, and railways.[1][2]Civil engineering is traditionally broken into a number of sub-disciplines. It is considered the second-oldest engineering discipline after military engineering,[3] and it is defined to distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering.[4] Civil engineering takes place in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies.
Eligibility
Admission to undergraduate programmes in engineering (B.E.) shall be open to candidates who have passed Karnataka 2nd PUC / 12th standard or equivalent examination recognized by AICTE and State Government with Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry / Electronics / Biology / Biotechnology / Computer Science as optional subjects and English as one of the languages of study. Students must have obtained a minimum of 45% marks in aggregate (40% for SC/ST/OBC students of Karnataka only) in the optional subjects mentioned above.
