Course
M.Phil Psychiatric Social Work is a Full-Time 2-Years Course. In the two-year program, the candidates are exposed to the application of methods, techniques and skills of social work for the promotion of mental health, prevention of mental disorders, therapeutic interventions at individual, group and family level as well as aftercare and rehabilitation in institutional, semi institutional and non-institutional settings. At the end of the second year, they have to submit a dissertation using explorative-descriptive, experimental-evaluative research studies related to Psychiatric Social Work.
Eligibility
A candidate must have passed the 2 years Master’s Degree in Social Work from any recognized university, or other related fields with minimum 55% marks. Selections are based on entrance tests and interview.

Psychiatric social workers form an integral part of the workforce that’s into solving issues related to mental health. They work with individuals, families, groups and communities in dealing with aspects related to mental health problems. They work towards eliminating or reduce disabilities of mentally ill patients and provide them with an improved quality of life. Psychiatric social workers work by first identifying and assessing the psychological problems affecting a mentally ill patient. They study the family and social backgrounds that could be factors impacting the illness. They then formulate a line of treatment essential for progress and complete rehabilitation of the patient.
Psychiatric social workers work in hospitals, medical colleges, homes for mentally retarded, rehabilitation centres, community development programs and so on. You can look forward to pursue a PhD program in the relevant field.
