About Us
In view of the changing Health Care services worldwide and a wider acknowledgement about the importance of Physical Rehabilitation of the disabled, Physiotherapy gained importance in last 50 years in Western countries. The ripple set waves in India as well. Vokkaligara Sangha felt the need to train our people in this area to complete their mission of giving total Health care to the needy and poor. The Sangha sought permission from Government of Karnataka and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences to start Bachelor’s Degree programme in Physical Therapy, in the year 1997. Both statutory bodies permitted to start the course with an intake of 25 students to be trained in the Department of Physiotherapy of the Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (accorded sanction). Today the Department has grown up in facility and faculty. Gained an independent identity, with the name, “Kempegowda Institute of Physiotherapy”, named after the ruler ‘Sri Kempegowda’, the founder of Bangalore City. The institution has annual intake of 40 students in BPT and 10 intake of MPT.
