Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering was established in the year 2002, with an intake of 60. The department has dedicated, qualified faculty members with various specializations. All the faculty members are Post graduates with outstanding teaching and research experience. The department has maintained a student staff ratio of 15:1. The department has excellent infrastructure with state of the art equipment and software tools. The department is having computer centre with over 70 computers catering to student needs. The department has a strong R & D culture. The faculty interact closely with alumni in academia and industry in India and abroad in order to make the programmes to meet the aspirations of different stake holders. ECE department is equipped with state of the CAD tools and equipment’s. UG and PG students are highly innovative and have participated in national level Contest, Seminars, Conference, Workshop.
The focus of the department is to produce graduates with strong fundamentals in electronics and communication domain. The department is the most sought after branch of engineering by top CET (conducted by Karnataka examination authority) rank holders and other aspirants. ECE department has an excellent academic and placement record which has been consistently above 80% . Alumni of ECE Dept of MSEC occupy key positions in industry and are successful as entrepreneurs. ECE department has a strong PhD programme. It offers innovative approaches for teaching-learning and encourages virtual learning in order to tap the potential of its highly successful alumni spread all over the globe. The Department has been successfully carrying sponsored research projects since its inception.

Electronics and Communication Engineering opens up great career prospects which make our life easier and enjoyable such as Television, Radio, Computers and Mobiles etc. Students deals with the electronic devices, circuits, communication equipment's satellite, mobile communication, aerospace manufacturing companies, healthcare tools manufacturing. Electronics and Communications Engineering is one of the most popular branches of engineering which involves researching, designing, developing, testing and maintaining of electronic equipment. Electronics and Communication Engineers also supervise the assembling and manufacturing of communication and broadcast systems. The field of Electronics and Communications Engineering has its foundations in three major technical areas: Mathematics: Information, Networks and Systems, Physics: Circuits, Semiconductor Devices & Optical Systems, and Computers: Microprocessors and Computing devices. Eligibility Candidates seeking admission to the first year of the four year B.E., degree should have passed the two years of pre-university examinations (Physics, Mathematics and any one of Chemistry / Biology / Computer Science as optional subjects) conducted by the Pre-University Board of Karnataka State or any other examination recognized as equivalent by the Visvesvaraya Technological University and should have obtained not less than 45% marks in the optional subjects.
Candidates seeking admission to second year of the four year B.E., degree must have passed the three year Diploma course conducted by the Board of Technical Examination of Karnataka Government in the respective Branches/Courses or any other examination recognized as equivalent by the Visvesvaraya Technological University.
In case of candidates belonging to SC/ST & Category I/II/III (Karnataka students only), the minimum percentage of marks shall not be less than 45% in the optional subjects as per rules. Admissions will be according to reservation policy of the State Government.
