Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam BA Kathakali Vesham, a three-year undergraduate course for those who have completed a 10+2 from a recognized board. The course is constructed in such a way in order to teach different aspects of Kathakali vesham. Kathakali is one of the traditional and oldest dance forms in India. It is a type of story telling form of art. Kathakali is distinguished from other arts forms by its characters, colorful costumes, face masks and soulful expressions. The luxurious costume and make-up of Kathakali is known as kathakali vesham. On the basis of make-up, make-up is of five different types such as kathi, pacha, thadi, kari and minukku. The course offers knowledge in kathakali, life of Maestros, Navarasam, and other traditional art forms. Mahatma Gandhi University curriculum includes topics such as Aattakadha, Origin and History of Kathakali, Navarasam, Basic Study of Abhinaya, Bhava-rasa, Kalasams, Pacha and Kathi, Life and Contribution of Great Maestros, Detailed Study of Anga, Upanga, Efficiency and Proficiency, Important Characters on Kathakali, Detailed Study of Sanchari, Vebhichari Bhavas, Lavanasuravadham, Thoranayudham,Study of Characters and so on. The individuals could work in colleges, universities,schools and art organizations. They could work as educator, instructor, performer, teacher, content writer, content editor, copywriter and so on.
