Bachelor of Siddha Medicine & Surgery is an undergraduate medical program offered by Mariya Siddha Medical College and Hospital Thottavaram which is equivalent to MBBS. Siddha medicine is one of the ancient famous medical practices of India and comes under AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy). According to Siddha medicine, the physiological and psychological factors of the human body are controlled by seven elements – plasma, blood, muscle, fat, nerve, semen. These seven elements are activated by three Mukkuttram, namely vatha (air), pitha (fire/heat/energy) and Kapha (water). The imbalance of any of these Mukkuttram creates health issues and specially made Siddha medicines corrects it. Mariya Siddha Medical College and Hospital Thottavaram is affiliated to Tamilnadu Dr.MGR University Chennai. The Tamilnadu Dr.MGR University Chennai syllabus follows ancient medical records made by Siddhas. The Tamilnadu Dr.MGR University Chennai syllabus includes history and fundamental principal of Siddha medicine, medical botany and pharmacognosy, anatomy, materia medica-plant kingdom, materia medica- metals, minerals and animals, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, Siddha pathology, principals of modern pathology, forensic medicine and toxicology, varmam therapy external and special medicines, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics.
