The Department of Civil Engineering in known for its Industry-Institute-Interaction, technical activities and site visits. Providing Internship in reputed Civil Engineering firms has been made as a part of their curriculum, on a regular basis. The Department is an Organizational Life member of Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India) – ACCE(I), Indian Concrete Institute (ICI) and student chapters of ACCE(I) & ICI-KBC. The department is having MOU with industries and organizations for research & development activities and knowledge sharing. The Department has excellent facilities for imparting training/courses to engineering & other faculty, students, community, etc. The department is striving for excellence in research, teaching and service, covering the fundamental as well as applied aspects of Civil Engineering. The department is also engaged in guiding candidates leading to the Ph.D. degree and M.Sc. Engineering by research.
The Department plans and provides education in many Civil Engineering disciplines such as structural Engineering, Geo-technical Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Resources Engineering and Military Engineering.Technical talks by the industry experts and academia are organized under the banner of Civil Engineering Forum, for the benefit of students. Technical visits are also arranged to enhance the practical knowledge of the students.
The students are encouraged to participate in student meets, conclaves and festivals, technical competitions, quizzes and presentations, workshops, seminars, conferences and in similar extension activities of other NITs & IITs. Students are encouraged to opt for summer internships in Industries, NITs, IITs and the IISc. The department also provides consultancy services to the public and private sector firms.
B.E. Civil Engineering is an undergraduate engineering course.Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewerage systems, pipelines, structural components of buildings, and railways.Civil engineering is the broadest of the engineering fields. Civil engineering focuses on the infrastructure of the world which include Water works, Sewers, Dams, Power Plants, Transmission Towers/Lines, Railroads, Highways, Bridges, Tunnels, Irrigation Canals, River Navigation, Shipping Canals, Traffic Control, Mass Transit, Airport Runways, Terminals, Industrial Plant Buildings, Skyscrapers, etc. Among the important subdivisions of the field are construction engineering, irrigation engineering, transportation engineering, soils and foundation engineering, geodetic engineering, hydraulic engineering, and coastal and ocean engineering.
Eligibility
The student should have passed 2nd PUC / 12th standard or equivalent examination with English as one of the languages and obtained 45% of marks in aggregate in Physics and Mathematics along with Chemistry / Bio-Technology / Computer Science / Electronics / Biology. In case of candidates belonging to Karnataka Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other Backward Classes (Category I, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B), the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility will be 40% of marks in aggregate in the optional subjects in the qualifying examination.
