Master of Technology (M.Tech) Structural Engineering
M.Tech. Structural Engineering
Course
M.Tech programme in Structural Engineering was started in the institute during the academic year 2013-14 with an intake of 24 students. The Department has well qualified faculty members with 6 PhD holders with 6 more pursuing their PhD.The Department, being a registered Research Centre under VTU, provides an excellent structural engineering lab I & II facility as per the curriculum of VTU and even beyond curriculum with additional facilities for research activities.
The exclusive Computerized laboratory facility for the Department has CADD and application software for Structural Analysis and design, namely STAAD-Pro, ETABS, ANSYS and REVIT to make the students industry-ready when they complete their post-graduation. The institute has a state-of-the-art library facility which provides access to the students with online ASCE journals, e-books and excellent titles. The Department has a very well developed and responsive networking with leading professional Associations such as, Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India), Indian Concrete Institute and their student chapters. Through these, the department is able to negotiate attractive Internship Programmes in reputed companies.
M.Tech in Structural Engineering is a postgraduate course.Structural engineering theory is based upon applied physical laws and empirical knowledge of the structural performance of different materials and geometries. Structural engineering design uses a number of relatively simple structural concepts to build complex structural systems. Structural engineers are responsible for making creative and efficient use of funds, structural elements and materials to achieve these. Structural engineers need to understand and calculate the stability, strength and rigidity of built structures for buildings and non building structures.
Eligibility
Admission to M.Tech course shall be open to candidates who have passed the prescribed qualifying examination (B. E./B.Tech) as specified in ANNEXURE with not less than 50% marks in aggregate of all the all the semesters/years of the degree examination.
