Course
(4 Years Integrated B.A.-B.Ed./B.Sc.-B.Ed.)
Integrated Bachelor of Education course can be said to be a Dual Degree program. At the end of the program, a student will obtain two Degrees. The two Integrated B.Ed. programs introduced by the Ministry of Human Resource Development are - B.Sc. + B.Ed. and B.A. + B.Ed.
B.Sc.-B.Ed. is an integrated programme which aims at integrating general studies in sciences and professional studies in education. It provides a wide knowledge base for becoming an elementary and secondary school teacher. B.A B.Ed is an integrated Bachelor of Arts and teacher training programme wherein the basic objective is to prepare quality middle and secondary school teachers in Languages and Social Science.
Duration
The duration of the entire program is 4 years. Thus, it takes 1 year less than the usual duration it takes for one to complete B.Ed. in the traditional way.
Eligibility
B.Sc. B.Ed. course- 10+2 passed in Science stream from a recognized board. Minimum aggregate mark required is generally around 50% (scored in 12th board examination).
Goals of the Programme
- Integrated Teacher Education programme namely B.A B.Ed. and B.Sc. B.Ed. (primary and secondary education is designed to meet the needs of professional teachers for pre-primary, primary, upper primary and secondary level of school education.
- The 4 years integrated Teacher Education programme aims at enabling the student teacher to develop knowledge and perform competencies in disciplinary subjects.
- Understand the nuances of child psychology and how children learn.
- Familiarize the pedagogical approaches suitable for teaching at primary/secondary school children.
- Get acquainted with the content and pedagogical aspects of the teaching learning process suitable for pre-primary, secondary level children.
- Enhance the skill of communication.
- Appreciate and apply the latest approach such as the constructivist approach to teaching learning.
- Adopt innovative strategies in classroom process.
- Address issue related to natural resources and promote eco-friendly practices and sustainability.
- Develop and use low cost/no cost learning materials in classroom transaction.
- Get functional familiarity with ICT and use it as a teaching learning tool.
- Become effective teachers at primary/secondary level by imbibing appropriate professional values.
Higher Studies
After completing Integrated B.Ed. course, one may go for Integrated Master’s programs such as M.Sc. M.Ed. or M.A. M.Ed., with relevant subjects. Other than the Integrated format, graduates are also eligible to go for M.Sc., M.A. and M.Ed. programs separately. This can be followed up with further advanced courses like M.Phil. and PhD.
