Course
Post Basic Diploma in Operation Room Nursing is a one-year course. It aims to provide a sterile environment, quality care, and support to patients before, during and after surgical procedures. They should monitor the patient throughout the surgery, coordinate the surgery and assist the surgical team. The advances in surgical techniques, technology and the introduction of modern medical equipment types demand more specialised nurses in this field. Medically fit registered nurses (R.N/R.M) with one year of clinical experience can apply for this course. They should also possess a degree in B.Sc nursing/GNM or equivalent qualification. The curriculum helps the nurses to understand the concepts and principles of operation theatre nursing; communicating effectively with the patient & family; perform advance life support skills; applying nursing skills in caring for the patient undergoing surgery; effective participation in a surgical team; organise and manage operation theatre; teach other allied health professionals and patient's family and conduct research. Operation Theatre nurses may work in a hospital operation theatre department, day-surgery units (ambulatory surgery), clinics.
Duration: 1 Year
Eligibility: Students must have completed B.Sc.Nursing, Post Basic B.Sc.Nursing or GNM with 50% pass mark.
