Course
he M.Tech program in Biotechnology under Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Belagavi was commenced in the year 2011 with an intake of 18 students. The students who have a B.E. degree in Biotechnology/Food Technology/Bioinformatics/Chemical Engineering/Medical Electronics/Biomedical Engineering with a valid PGCET score/GATE score can enroll to the program. Students can also enroll through management quota. The M.Tech program is designed based on the industry requirement and to have sufficient specialization knowledge of Biotechnology domain. The postgraduate program was granted autonomy in the year 2016. The M.Tech program in Biotechnology is accredited by National Board of Accreditation for 2 years from 2018-2020. This program offers core subjects such as Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Immunology, Bioprocess engineering, Tissue Engineering, Food Technology, Proteomics and Genomics, Applied Bioinformatics, Upstream and Downstream processing, Pharmaceuticals, Nanotechnology. The M.Tech program offers the privilege to pursue internship and projects in industries and R&D labs of varied array and domain of life sciences, such as BIOCON, BIOZEEN, IISc., DFRL, CFTRI, GKVK, C-Camp, various public and private sectors.
M.Tech. in Biotechnology is a postgraduate program.Biotechnology is a broad area of biology, involving the use of living systems and organisms to develop or make products. Depending on the tools and applications, it often overlaps with related scientific fields.Biotechnology has expanded to include new and diverse sciences, such as genomics, recombinant gene techniques, applied immunology, and development of pharmaceutical therapies and diagnostic tests.
Eligibility
- A candidate who has passed prescribed qualifying examination BE/B.Tech. or equivalent and obtained an aggregate minimum of 50% marks taken together in all subjects in all the years is eligible for admission to M.Tech. and 45% of marks in case of SC/ST candidates.
- Candidates should have taken PGCET or should have a valid GATE Score/Rank.
- If the candidates has not qualified / appeared in PGCET/GATE a separate Entrance Test will be conducted for the candidates in the college.
