Course
The Civil Engineering Department was started in the year 1971. Master program M Tech in Structural Engineering was started in the year 1984. Another milestone was achieved in the year 1994; the department was recognized as Research Center. Over four decades the department has carved its niche in the areas of academics, research, consultancy, collaborative projects, and publications. The department was awarded distinction of 5 years of accreditation by NBA when it was evaluated for third time. Over 12 research scholars have been awarded PhD degree and more than 18 research scholars are pursuing Ph D and M Sc degree in Engineering. Over 250 technical papers in the reputed journals and conferences are the outcome of active research of the department. The Department holds a patent for Total Replacement of Sand in Concrete by Pond Ash (Patent No 244063). The department has been actively involved in conducting conferences, workshops, FDP’s, Site Visits, Project Tours and several students related programs to provide a platform for sharing and spreading the latest developments in the field of Civil Engineering.
B.E. Civil engineering is the broadest of the engineering fields. Civil engineering focuses on the infrastructure of the world which include Water works, Sewers, Dams, Power Plants, Transmission Towers/Lines, Railroads, Highways, Bridges, Tunnels, Irrigation Canals, River Navigation, Shipping Canals, Traffic Control, Mass Transit, Airport Runways, Terminals, Industrial Plant Buildings, Skyscrapers, etc. Among the important subdivisions of the field are construction engineering, irrigation engineering, transportation engineering, soils and foundation engineering, geodetic engineering, hydraulic engineering, and coastal and ocean engineering.
Eligibility
- A candidate who has passed 10 + 2 pattern of examination (equivalent to the two year Pre University in Karnataka) with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Computer Science/ Electronics as optional subjects in the qualifying examination is eligible to pursue an undergraduate degree in engineering at MSRIT.
- The eligibility for admission is 45% in case of General Category and 40% marks in the qualifying examination in case of SC/ST, Category-1 and OBC Category candidates. The marks obtained by the candidate in Biotechnology/ Biology/ Computer Science/ Electronics in the qualifying examination will be considered in the place of Chemistry in case the marks obtained in Chemistry is less for the required aggregate percentage for the purpose of determination of eligibility (and not for the purpose of determination of rank, in respect of engineering/technology courses).
