Course
The department was started in the year 1962 with Under Graduate Program of sanctioned intake 60, along with the establishment of the college. In the year 2003, department was recognised as a research centre by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum to offer PhD and M Sc (Engg. by Research) programs. Department also offers post graduate program M.Tech in Computer Applications in Industrial Drives, since 2004. The department was accredited thrice by NBA, New Delhi and in 2015, the department has been accredited for five years by NBA. The department has set up a centre of excellence in Process Automation and Control in collaboration with Schneider Electric, Bangalore and established NI LabVIEW Academy in collaboration with NI and National MEMS Design Centre, supported by NPMASS, India. The department has 14 well qualified and experienced faculty members with specialization High Voltage Engineering, Power systems, Power electronics, Illumination engineering, Control systems, Signal Processing and VLSI Design and Embedded systems. Five faculty members of the department are doctorates, six faculty members are pursuing research in different disciplines at different Universities and rest others are post graduates. Dr.Pradipkumar Dixit is specialized in High Voltage Engineering (Ph. D from VTU, Belgaum, 2009), Dr. Chandrashekhar Badachi holds doctoral degree with specialization in High Voltage Engineering(from Jain University, 2016), Dr. Kodeeswara Kumaran G. holds doctoral degree with specialization in Power Electronics and Renewable Energy(from NIT, Suratkal, 2018), Dr. Shridhar S holds doctoral degree with specialization in Power Systems(from VTU, Belgaum 2018), Dr Janamejaya B C holds doctoral degree with specialization in fast charging (from, University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), Ontario, Canada, 2018) and Dr. G. R. Nagabhushana, Formerly Chairman, Department of High Voltage Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore is with the department as Professor Emeritus. In addition, Sri. K V Jayaram, Retired JM-DGM, Bokaro Steel Plant/SAIL has joined the department as Co-ordinator for Schneider Electric Centre of Excellence.
B.E. Electrical and Electronic Engineering is under -graduation degree course. The main objective of this course is to make the students more productive and professionally more innovative in the field of electronics and electrical industry. Programs include classroom, laboratory, and field studies. Electrical Engineering covers various energy efficient power grids to design the electrical systems powering our lives and range of research areas from devices (such as lasers and robotics) to systems (such as computer architecture and the human brain).
Electronic engineering is an electrical engineering discipline which utilizes nonlinear and active electrical components to design electronic circuits, devices, integrated circuits and their systems. The discipline typically also designs passive electrical components, usually based on printed circuit boards.
Eligibility
- A candidate who has passed 10 + 2 pattern of examination (equivalent to the two year Pre University in Karnataka) with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Computer Science/ Electronics as optional subjects in the qualifying examination is eligible to pursue an undergraduate degree in engineering at MSRIT.
- The eligibility for admission is 45% in case of General Category and 40% marks in the qualifying examination in case of SC/ST, Category-1 and OBC Category candidates. The marks obtained by the candidate in Biotechnology/ Biology/ Computer Science/ Electronics in the qualifying examination will be considered in the place of Chemistry in case the marks obtained in Chemistry is less for the required aggregate percentage for the purpose of determination of eligibility (and not for the purpose of determination of rank, in respect of engineering/technology courses).
