Bachelor of Engineering (BE) Mechanical Engineering
BE Mechanical Engineering
Course
The Department of Mechanical Engineering commenced in the year 1962 with an intake of 60 students. The department has grown strong over the last 54 years with the intake rising to 180 students educated by a teaching staff comprising 50 members. The department was affiliated to the Bangalore University for a period of 35 years starting from the year 1962 and then the affiliation changed to the Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) in the year 1997. The department was awarded the autonomous status by the VTU in the year 2007. A Master’s degree course in Manufacturing Science and Engineering was introduced in the year 1985 to create adequate opportunities to scholars with a desire to pursue career in research and education. Acknowledging the requirements of automation in Production Industries, the department introduced one more Master’s degree course with the title Computer Integrated Manufacturing in the year 2004. The Department also offers research programme which includes MSc Engineering by research and PhD degree from VTU and at present 24 researchers are pursuing PhD.
B.E Mechanical Engineering is an undergraduate program. Mechanical Engineering is one of the oldest and broadest among engineering disciplines. The application base of Mechanical Engineering field of study is diverse and its scope is continuously expanding beyond the traditional boundaries. Mechanical Engineering applies the principles of Physics, Materials Science and Mathematics to the design, development, research, evaluation, manufacture, installation, testing, operation, maintenance and management of mechanical systems. Mechanical Engineers use these core principles along with tools like computer-aided engineering and product life-cycle management to design, analyse and develop manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices, and others.Mechanical Engineer thinks up,design, realizes new products and processes, improves and optimizes existing technologies.
Eligibility
- A candidate who has passed 10 + 2 pattern of examination (equivalent to the two year Pre University in Karnataka) with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with Chemistry/ Biotechnology/ Biology/ Computer Science/ Electronics as optional subjects in the qualifying examination is eligible to pursue an undergraduate degree in engineering at MSRIT.
- The eligibility for admission is 45% in case of General Category and 40% marks in the qualifying examination in case of SC/ST, Category-1 and OBC Category candidates. The marks obtained by the candidate in Biotechnology/ Biology/ Computer Science/ Electronics in the qualifying examination will be considered in the place of Chemistry in case the marks obtained in Chemistry is less for the required aggregate percentage for the purpose of determination of eligibility (and not for the purpose of determination of rank, in respect of engineering/technology courses).
