About Us
The School of Nursing, Scudder Memorial Hospital is started by Ms. Wilhelmina Noordyk a American Missionary Nurse in the year 1921. When the patients flow is increased to Scudder Memorial Hospital, training more number of people from local area with nursing skills has become mandatory to meet the growing patients demands. After the arrival of Miss. Marsilje another missionary nurse, Ms. Noordyk handed over the training and education of nurses to Ms. Marsilje and then she exclusively took care of the hospital patient care.
The nursing training had initially begun with 2 male candidates then the females were also included for training. In the year of 1939 the Diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery training conducted in School of Nursing, Scudder Memorial Hospital, Ranipet is approved by Madras Nursing Council, Tamil Nadu. The annual intake of Nursing students is increased to 40 from 25 students from 2006 that includes 36 female and 4 male candidates. The School of Nursing is affiliated to the Nurses League, Christian Association of India, South India Board and recognized by Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council.
Over these years, totally 2187 nurses were trained by School of Nursing, Scudder Memorial Hospital, Ranipet. The nurses trained by School of Nursing, SMH are serving different parts of our nation and in many countries of the world. The School of Nursing continue to provide quality education with excellent nursing skill training and a high moral values, nurtured them in the Christian environment and they are encouraged Christ like life and take-up its motto of “Universal unselfish Service” to all mankind.
The institution is also felt the need of society and it’s a request of many from the local community to bring the collegiate programme with B. Sc Nursing course in Scudder Memorial Hospital. Therefore the institution has taken an initiative and started B. Sc Nursing course in the name of Scudder College of Nursing in the year 2018-2019 by the grace of God with 50 female candidates. The College is affiliated to the Dr. M.G.R. Medical University, Tamil Nadu, recognized by Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi and the Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council.
