B.E. Information Science and Engineering is an Under-Graduation course.Information science focuses on understanding problems from the perspective of the stakeholders involved and then applying information and other technologies as needed. In other words, it tackles systemic problems first rather than individual pieces of technology within that system.It also throws light on how to analyse and interpret the raw data. It is an academic field which is primarily concerned with analysis, collection, classification, manipulation, storage, retrieval, movement, dissemination, and protection of information.
The Internet & Communication Technologies (ICT) is the buzzword today. The world is shrinking as communication between the two ends of the world occurs in matter of seconds. Call it globalization, or Flexibility in international trade and business, it is facilitated by the evolution of Internet & Communication Technologies and its advancements.
Information science engineering enables connectivity of data across the globe with a click of the mouse. It caters to the needs of all other domains that require large data intensive applications and it dispersion effectively. The e-paradigms such as electronic business (e-bus), electronic commerce (e-com), e-learning (electronic learning), e-governance (electronic governance) are the products of advancements in information explosion and technology.
The department offers bachelor’s degree in information science, an undergraduate course of eight semesters, as per the VTU syllabus. The syllabus is revised from time to time to align itself to the changing needs of the industry. Students encouraged to visit IT exhibitions/ expositions, participate in industry sponsored seminars and conferences, to interact with industry representatives and technocrats.
Duration : 4 Years
Eligibility : Pre-University Board or any other examinations recognized by the University or equivalent thereto, with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics.
