Course
MSW is a two-year postgraduate degree in social work offered by Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit Kalady. The basic qualification for applying for MSW is a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university. The program aims at individuals who are already working in the social work field. The course helps the students to undertake training, research, work, and consultancy in the areas of social science. Training would be given to professional social work in the areas of health and environment, rural-urban community development, labor welfare, tribal development, education, family and child welfare. The students could establish interaction between various experienced hand workshops and conferences. The course equips the students with a critical understanding of issues related to the elderly, family unit, children, and persons with disabilities. The topics under study are history, philosophy theory and practice of counseling, and fields of social work, social work research and social statistics, project planning, and management and so on. Master of Social Work degree specializations includes urban and rural community development, medical and psychiatric social work, rural and urban community development, human resource management, industrial relations and labor welfare, school social work, personnel management, and so on. International organizations like UNESCO, UNICEF, WHO employ social development workers in campaigns, awareness, and projects meant for developing countries. The various areas of employment for MSW graduates are hospitals, counseling centers, health industry, HR department of industries, education sector, disaster management department, correction cells, mental hospitals, gender issues association or groups, prisons, natural resource management companies, old age homes, The students could be employed as documentation and communication officer, district consultant, junior research fellow, professors, program coordinators, junior research fellows, project coordinators, senior manager-HR, and so on.
