The department is started with an annual intake of 60 students in the year 2011. Civil Engineering Department has nine laboratories fully equipped to cater to the needs of academic as well as research & consultancy activities. The nature of testing & investigation includes water quality analysis, site investigation for evaluation of safe bearing capacity of soil, stability of slopes. Concrete mix design, testing of concrete & building materials, highway pavement materials testing etc. The department is extending its consultancy services in planning, design, construction and maintenance of buildings
B.E. in Civil Engineering is an undergraduate program. Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewerage systems, pipelines, structural components of buildings, and railways.Civil engineering is traditionally broken into a number of sub-disciplines. It is considered the second-oldest engineering discipline after military engineering,and it is defined to distinguish non-military engineering from military engineering.Civil engineering takes place in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from individual homeowners through to international companies.

Eligibility
Eligibility to join the 4 year Bachelor of Engineering courses of the Visvesvaraya Technological University is a pass in the two – year Pre University Examination (Science) conducted by the Karnataka State Pre University Board or any other examination recognised by the University as equivalent thereto, subject to their having obtained a 45% ( 40% for SC/ST ,Cat I,IIA, IIB,IIIA & IIIB ) of marks in aggregate in the three subjects of Physics, Mathematics and any one of the following subjects namely Chemistry, Biology & Biotechnology.
