Ph.D Malayalam offered by St. Berchmans College Changanassery is a three-years post-doctoral degree for those who have a postgraduation in Malayalam. The program would help to acquire an intensive knowledge about the subject. The aim of the doctoral program is to mold those candidates who could be able to deal with the subject in any means. St. Berchmans College affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam. Mahatma Gandhi University curriculum includes topics such as RESEARCH-definition and concepts- requirement for research- levels of research-difference between literary criticism and literary research-thesis and dissertation, RESEARCH PROCEDURE (a) selection of topics –types of sources materials- collection of materials-sampling procedure-methods of preparing notes-carol system file system and file system- method of observation- reference and quotation-analysis of materials-outlines of thesis (b) variants in methodology – folkloristics-linguistics-textual criticism-interdisciplinary studies. STRUCTURE OF THESIS : Three parts of thesis, introduction, body of thesis and conclusion- division of chapters-subheadings-numbering of paragraphs-foot notes/end notes and references-tables and illustrations-language of the thesis- objective description /subjective description-appendix-bibliography-abbreviation –layout of the thesis. DEVELOMENT OF LITERARY RESEARCH IN MALAYALAM AND IT’S PRESENT STAGE. The beginning of research –contribution of early writers in research –library history and research-research in university level –an evaluation and so on. Colleges, schools, universities, educational institutions, research institutes, and so on are the employment areas for the candidates. They are employed as lecturer, professor, teacher, research officer, assistant professor, research assistant, researcher, and many more.
