B.Sc. Biotechnology - (Chemistry, Zoology, Biotechnology)
- Chemistry : Chemistry is the scientific discipline involved with elements and compounds composed of atoms, molecules and ions: their composition, structure, properties, behavior and the changes they undergo during a reaction with other substances.
- Zoology : Zoology, also known as Animal Biology, is the branch of biology that deals with living as well as extinct animals and their interaction with their ecosystems. Zoology is the branch of biology which relates to the animal kingdom, including the structure, embryology, evolution, classification, habits, and distribution of all animals, both living and extinct.
- Biotechnology : B.Sc. in Biotechnology is an undergraduate course, involving an advanced study of the cellular and bi-molecular processes for development of a variety of technologies and products that contribute to improving people’s lives and health. Biotechnology is a part of Applied Biology, which simply stated, is the combination of biology with technology so as to alter cells for manipulation. The course familiarizes candidates with the usage of living organisms and bio processes in the field of medicine, technology, engineering, and other bio products.
Duration
It is a 3 year, 6 semester full time undergraduate degree course, affiliated to Bangalore University, Bangalore and recognized by Govt.of Karnataka.
Specific Objectives of the course are :
- To exploit the biological agents and their products for welfare of mankind.
- To learn all the potential and virtually impact domains ranging from food processing and environment protection and human health.
- To impart various technical knowledge in the area of biochemistry, microbiology, immunology, genetics, genetic engineering, enzyme technology, molecular biology, plant and animal biotechnology.
- Compatibility with information technology has open new vistas in bioinformatics which helps in designing, modeling and studying various biomolecules (protein, DNA, RNA).
Eligibility criteria
Should have cleared the Pre-University examination of Karnataka, or an equivalent examination conducted by any other board/ Pre-University or 10+2, equivalent examination should have minimum 35% or pass marks aggregate in PCB/CBZ.
