Course
M.D Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation shortly called as PM&R is a branch of medical science which involves the study of physical disabilities or impairments. It gives emphasis to optimize the functionality and performance of the affected organ of the patient. Candidates who have completed their training in this branch of medicine are called as Rehab Medicine Specialists. These candidates specialize in restoration of optimal function to people with injuries to nervous system, tissues, bones and muscle. The course deals with in-depth analysis of patient care, clinical rehabilitation, clinical care, timely medication and environmental related factors of diseases. The aim of the course is to create a medical practitioner out of a medical graduate. The scope and functional area of the course are quite wide.

Eligibility
- The basic qualification required for pursuing M.D Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation course is a MBBS degree from a recognized central / state university.
- A minimum aggregate score of 50% (45% for SC / ST candidates) is required at the graduation (MBBS) level.
- Candidates must have passed the final year exams before the commencement of the course.
Admission Process
NEET PG exam has been made the sole criteria for admission into all disciplines of M.D course offered by both private as well as government medical colleges across India. However, some national medical colleges conduct a separate entrance exam for admission into M.D Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation course.
Career Prospects
After the successful completion of M.D Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation course, one can join old age home as an in-house physician or can work with NGOs working for similar cause. Apart from this, the option to get into a private or public hospital, clinic is always open. Since these professionals are capable of treating common ailments like back pain, sport injury, traumatic brain injury, stroke, etc. they are also appointed in hospitals with multi-specialty facilities. They are employed in host of areas like primary health care, general medication, disease diagnosis, etc. Defense forces also recruit these professionals where they are expected to deliver their services to the armed forces of the country.
