University of Kerala Thiruvananthapuram offers M.Sc Biochemistry, a two-year postgraduate course in Biotechnology for those who have completed their graduation in biochemistry or related subjects or equivalent course from a recognized university. Biochemistry includes all living processes and living organisms. Biochemistry deals with cellular components like carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids and other bio-molecules, their structures, and functions. The program intends to provide awareness about every aspect of the function and structure of living, to utilize the understanding for the benefit of mankind. University of Kerala curriculum includes topics such as cell biology and physiology, structure and function of biomolecules, enzymology, bioenergetics and intermediary metabolism, nutritional and clinical biochemistry, plant biochemistry, molecular biology, introductory microbiology, immunology, basic biotechnology, and so on. The various employment areas related to the sector are pharmaceutical industries, research laboratories, diagnostic centres, biotechnology firms, diagnostic centres, healthcare centres and clinical laboratories, medical transcription and much more. The PG holders are employed as Consultant-Clinical biochemistry, lecturer in biochemistry, assistant professor i biochemistry, technician, reader, medical laboratory technician, and such others.
