The Department of Civil Engineering in VVIT was established in the year 2009. Over the years, it has grown into one of the finest centers of learning in the field of civil engineering. The Department aims to bring out engineers equipped with the latest technical skills & global exposure who are ready to handle any sort of practical issue with ease with their solid theoretical background. The Department has been very proactive in industrial interaction and technology development. It has built excellent experimental and computational facilities related to Hydraulics, Geotechnical, Structural and Environmental Engineering fields.
Civil Engineering is a versatile and fundamental branch among the other engineering branches. This branch has a lot of diversity right from geotechnical sciences to structural Engineering, environmental to hydraulics, transportation to hydrology. It offers a wide promising career opportunities and professional advancement. Career opportunities exist in the public and private sectors in the areas of design, construction and maintenance, infrastructure development in both India and abroad. Many opportunities exist in developing countries in Middle East, Africa and Asia where infrastructure development is picking up and Indian engineers are in great demand.

Eligibility
- Admission to I year / I semester Bachelor Degree in Engineering / Technology shall be open to the candidates who have passed the second year Pre-University or XII standard or equivalent examination recognized by the University.
- In addition the candidate shall have secured not less than forty five percent (45%) marks in the aggregate with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects, along with any one of the following subjects, namely, Chemistry, Bio-Technology, Biology, Computer Science and Electronics.
- Provided that, the minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility shall be forty percent(40%) in optional subjects in case of candidates belonging to SC/ST and OBC candidates from Karnataka. Provided further that, the candidate shall have studied and passed English as one of the subjects.
